Buying at Adey Auctions

At Adey Auctions, we understand that stepping into the world of bidding can feel daunting, especially for newcomers. That's why we've made it our mission to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone—from seasoned collectors to first-time bidders—can feel confident.

Adey Auctions offers two ways to bid: In person and online.

For In-Person Bidding: Simply attend one of our live on-site auctions, register upon arrival, obtain a bidder’s card, and start bidding.

For Online Bidding: If you can’t attend the auction on-site, or if the auction is online-only, then bidding online is the way to go. We’ve teamed up with Auction Mobility to make online bidding a breeze. So, either leave your maximum bid and let their system bid on your behalf, or bid live online during the sale.

Full details on how to bid can be found below. Alternatively, skip straight to one of the following sections:

In-Person Bidding
In-Person Bidding
  • To bid in person, you must first register on auction day. You must also be at least 18 years of age.

  • To register, see the auctioneer’s assistant who will give you a Bidder’s Registration Form to complete.

  • You will need to fill out your details, agree to the Bidder’s Terms and Conditions, and present a valid photo ID.

It is important to note that the Bidder’s Terms and Conditions govern every auction sale. A copy will be given to you and displayed on-site for your perusal. The Bidder’s Terms and Conditions can also be found here.

  • Once complete, return the Bidder’s Registration Form to the auctioneer’s assistant, who will sight your ID and then issue you with a bidder’s card, showing your unique bidder’s number.

  • Take or make note of the lot number(s) of the item(s) you wish to bid on, and then raise your bidder’s card when that lot is being called so that the auctioneer can clearly see your bid and bidder’s number.

As per the Bidder’s Terms and Conditions, all bids are binding, so do not bid unless you mean it. Be sure to make your bids clear too, because once the gavel is knocked down, the item is deemed sold.

  • Once you have completed your purchases, visit the auctioneer’s assistant to receive your invoice, pay, and arrange collection.

Please note: We do not accept absentee or phone bids. If you are unable to bid during the auction, consider registering online and leaving a pre-bid. Pre-bids act as absentee bids. For more information see “Bidding Online” below.

Bidding Online
Bidding Online

As with in-person bidding, all bidders must register to bid and be at least 18 years of age. During the registration process, you will need to agree to our full Bidder's Terms and Conditions which can be found here. You can register to bid online in any auction you choose at any time via the Adey Auctions website, but first you'll need to create an account.

How to Create an Account

  • From our home page, click the “Bid Online” or “Upcoming Auctions” button to be taken to our Auction Mobility page.

  • Once there, select “Login”.

  • The login page will pop up, asking for a username and password. Look for the “Create Account” option below it and click “Create Account.” This will take you to a page to set up your account.

  • Please fill out all fields, including name, address, contact number, email address, and credit card details. (Adding all this information now will make registering to bid faster later).

Please note: Your auction purchases will not be automatically charged to this credit card. Rather, you will need to pay for any purchases in accordance with the Adey Auctions Bidder’s Terms and Conditions, which can be found here. See item 13 entitled “Payment”.

  • Once you have completed the set-up, please verify your email address, and record your login details for future reference.

How to Bid Online

Adey Auctions uses the Auction Mobility online bidding system. Auction Mobility is a quality online bidding system that runs and broadcasts live auctions with video and sound feed.

You can either bid online via your computer or by downloading the Adey Auctions app for your mobile or tablet device. Simply search “Adey Auctions” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and look for our logo.

All of our auctions open for pre-auction bidding online at least 5 days prior to the advertised auction day.

This enables pre-auction bids to be placed online at any time before the live auction starts. You will see an auction timer counting down to the live auction sale.

During the pre-bidding period and once the live auction starts, the auction bidding system will incrementally bid on your behalf against both online bidders and live-audience bidders up to the maximum bid you placed.

You can also watch or join the live auction once it starts. That way, if you are then outbid, you can keep bidding live online if you wish to.

You can increase any pre-bids while the auction is live up until that lot is open, but please note: you cannot reduce or delete any bids.

  • To bid live or pre-bid online, please ensure you are logged in to your Auction Mobility account via the Adey Auctions website or app. (Remember: You can access Auction Mobility at any time by clicking the “Bid Online” button on the Adey Auctions home page).

  • Click on “Upcoming Auctions” or “Upcoming Sales” if they’re not already visible.

  • Click on the auction you want to bid in; you can either view the lots or join the live auction. If you haven't already registered to bid, please do so now. (For instructions, see previous heading).

  • Navigate to the lot you want and click on it.

  • To place a pre-bid, press “Place Bid” and a screen will appear with a bid stack, allowing you to either bid the next increment or set your maximum pre-bid so the system can bid incrementally on your behalf.

Please note: while a lot is in the process of being auctioned live, you will only be able to bid the next increment. To place a live bid, click the “Bid AU$” button showing the next increment, or, via the app, slide the arrow on the “Slide to bid” bar.

  • Winning online bidders will be notified and invoiced via email on the evening of the sale.

Alternatively, if you are on-site and in the audience but outbid online, you can choose to keep bidding live in person provided you know your online bidder’s number. If not, please see the auctioneer’s assistant and they will help you. Please also ensure you remember the maximum bid you left online so that you don’t bid in person against yourself! (For instructions on how to bid in person, see the “In-Person Bidding” heading above).

Timed Online-Only Auctions

On occasion, we may offer a timed online-only auction without a live auctioneer, similar to that of eBay.

Timed online-only auctions will typically run for 7 days, and all bidding must be done online before the auction closes.

Bids can be placed as soon as the auction is listed. The auction runs by a timer, and the auction lots are staggered to finish 20 seconds apart.

Any bid that is placed on a lot in the last 10 seconds will automatically extend the timer for another minute, giving the underbidder a chance to increase their bid.

You can increase any bids while the auction is live and the lot is open, but please note: you cannot reduce or delete any bids.

  • To bid, please ensure you are logged in to your Auction Mobility account via the Adey Auctions website or app. (Remember: You can access Auction Mobility at any time by clicking the “Bid Online” button on the Adey Auctions home page).

  • Click on “Upcoming Auctions” or “Upcoming Sales” if they’re not already visible.

  • Select the auction that you want to bid in. If you haven't already registered to bid, please do so now. (For instructions, see "How to Register to Bid" above).

  • Navigate to the lot you want and click on it.

  • To place a bid, press “Place Bid” and a screen will appear with a bid stack, allowing you to either bid the next increment or set your maximum bid so the system can bid incrementally on your behalf. The bidding program clearly tells you if you are winning or have lost a lot.

  • Winning bidders will be notified and invoiced via email on the evening of the sale.

The Basic Bidding Terms
The Basic Bidding Terms

The following is a quick run-down of our most basic bidding terms. The full Bidder's Terms and Conditions govern every auction sale and can be found here. Please familiarise yourself with the full Terms and Conditions.

  • Buyer’s Premium: A non-negotiable buyer’s premium of 15% + GST (16.5% GST inclusive) applies to all goods sold. Buyer’s Premium is payable by the buyer and calculated on the final hammer/bid price, then added to it. For example: if the final hammer/bid price of an item is $100, the total amount the buyer must pay is $116.50.

  • Payment: Full payment for all items purchased is due on collection or prior to collection. All payments must clear and be visible in our account before any goods are released. Please see the “Payment Methods” section below for information on the methods we accept, surcharges, and information specific to international buyers.

  • Collection: The buyer is responsible for the collection and removal of any purchased goods within the specified timeframe. Collection timeframes differ from auction to auction—please refer to the “Auction Information” stated in the description of Lot 1 in the auction’s online catalogue for details relating to that specific auction. It is important to note that the collection timeframe may be limited, so please be aware of that prior to bidding. Adey Auctions does not offer a packing or postage service, but please see “Collection, Packing, and Delivery Services” below for suggestions.

  • All items are sold "as-is/where-is" without any warranty or guarantee. No cancellations or refunds will be granted for any reason. It is the buyer’s responsibility to inform themselves of the condition, accuracy, suitability, and fitness of any item they purchase.

  • All items are the responsibility of the buyer at the fall of the hammer; therefore, the buyer should immediately arrange appropriate insurance coverage.

  • All bidders must register to bid and be at least 18 years of age.

  • All bids are considered legally binding and cannot be reduced or withdrawn.

  • At the fall of the hammer, the highest bidder shall be the buyer of the item unless the item is subject to a reserve price higher than the bid.

Payment Methods
Payment Methods

Australia-Based Buyers

Full payment for all items purchased is due on collection or prior to collection. We accept the following payment methods from Australia-based buyers:

  • Direct deposit/bank transfer** (please see note and account details below)

  • EFTPOS

  • Credit card (excluding Amex or Diners Club)

Please note: A 1.1% surcharge applies to all EFTPOS and credit card transactions; facilities are available on-site. Cheques are not accepted.

**When paying by direct deposit or bank transfer online, please do so promptly as payment can take time to appear in our account, and no goods can be released until that happens. Please also note that, given this, where collection times for a particular auction are short (eg. the day of auction or the following day only), bank transfers may not be offered as a payment method at all. Please see Lot 1 "Auction Information" in the auction's online catalogue for the payment methods accepted for that particular sale.

Adrian will happily discuss this with you prior to the auction and also provide you with our banking details. Payment must be made within 24 hours of the auction’s completion.

We understand that international bank transfers can take time, yet our collection times may be short. We are happy to negotiate a suitable collection date with the vendor once full payment has been received.

When transferring funds, please use your bidder’s number and surname in the reference field.
